Hello Patty!

I have been working on this subject with all my LHD. The CDC is not recommending any particular DICOM view. I was instructed not to recommend any specific DICOM viewer...so I asked the LHD to work with their IT to find an approved DICOM viewer that will allow them to view the *dcm files (we are decentralized) .
Some of the "free" DICOM viewers may upload information to a cloud services.

I went through my IT department and they installed an approved DICOM viewer for me to view these files (sMILX).
I know one of my LHD IT department installed File Viewer plus 4...not sure of the cost.

For me the digital CXR is under the View/Downloadable Documents tab in the EDN. The file name ends in *dcm...which I think is for digital chest imaging or something like that.

Still having problems with outside radiology clinics/hospitals being able to view these files. Not sure why, I was told it is a common format and any provider who uses an electronic health record system should be able to view.

Hope something in that was helpful.
Karla

Happy Friday!

I was wondering how you clinics are opening the x-ray attachments that come through EDN. It requires a dicom viewer to open it. I did find a site that offers free access with limited capabilities. My questions are:

How are clinics opening these files?

What is a good platform and is there a cost?

Appreciate anything you can share,

Patty
