Aplisol positivity increased?? by Staley, Deborah (VDH) (01 Jun 2017 13:36 EDT)
Reply to listHello, may I invite comment from the brain trust?
A local long-term care facility contacted our office about 5 straight positive TSTs in a row, given for pre-employment testing. All were given out of the same bottle of Aplisol, PAR Pharmaceuticals lot # 802078. Two of the 5 tested were U.S. born with no other risk factors and 3 were from high-TB burden countries. Of the 3, one was the 2nd step of the 2-step testing, with the first TST having been negative and given from a different vial but same lot. This person had recently traveled to the home country.
Has anyone reported or experienced a higher rate of TST positivity with Aplisol recently?
How would you recommend they proceed?
Thanks!

Reply to listHello all,
We had several volunteers at the conference for the TB nurse manual update, but wanted to open it up for all nurse members. We'd like to meet just after Memorial Day to get started on this important project.
Please let me know if you're interested; the plan is to review each chapter for needed updates, write the updates, put it all together and edit the document, and then get ready to publish. We'd also like to consider whether there are portions of the document that might be more useful in another format: an app? A one-page document for posting in clinics? Etc.
So bring your ideas and volunteer for this!
Also: if any one or two of you would like to lead this effort, please let me know! I'm the staff support, and would greatly appreciate having leader(s) to run the project.
Thanks!

Subject: [TB Roundtable] Free eCourse on using new TB medicines and regimens available now!
Dear Colleagues,
The USAID-funded Systems for Improved Access to Pharmaceuticals and Services (SIAPS) Program is excited to announce the launch of the Using New TB Medicines and Regimens eCourse—a free, self-paced course for health professionals on new TB medicines, such as bedaquiline and delamanid, and new regimens, such as the nine-month regimen. The course also covers responsible use of these medicines and regimens for the treatment of multi-drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB).
This course is intended for use by physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and all health care workers who are currently engaged in the management of MDR-TB patients. Workers in national TB control programs, ministries of health, and nongovernmental organizations who are looking to introduce new TB medicines and regimens in their countries will also greatly benefit from this course.
The eCourse is available on Leadernet.org. The information in this course has been developed on the basis of publicly available resources from the World Health Organization and elsewhere. It has been taught via in-person workshops to hundreds of health care workers in five countries. Now this information is available to you at no cost.
The course includes eight modules with interactive case studies. You can choose to review all the modules in this course or simply pick the ones that are most relevant to your practice setting. Whether you are new to the topics and want to view the entire course in sequential order, or if you a need a refresher or want to view a specific topic or resource, you can do so. You do not have to complete all the modules at once; you can go at your own pace and learn in your free time as desired. A certificate will be provided for those who complete the full course.
For more information or to register for this free course, please visit https://leadernet.org/
